Manchester Engineering Campus Development (MECD)

Two people in conversation in the student union

Tell us your stories

The University of Manchester and its predecessors have been continuously developing for over 190 years.

I was at the University studying Electrical Engineering from 1970 through to 1974 and there was a village feeling to the place. Folk were just as easy playing bowls on the crown green as they were going to lectures and into the union!

Farid S. Kawar / Former University student

We have embraced change and adapted and evolved to meet the needs of our students, our research, the local community and the public. MECD is a continuation of these efforts and is vital in ensuring that we are at the forefront of engineering globally.

We are keen to document the rich academic, civic and social heritage associated with The University of Manchester, its predecessors (the Victoria University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology), and the buildings they have occupied.

If you have a story to tell about your time as a student, staff member or industry partner, either on north campus (the former UMIST site) or the former buildings that now make up the MECD site, please get in touch.
